The Wigmore Lectures: Mary Ross, Shipbuilder

At her wedding on 17 February 1791, Mary Ross married a business as well as a husband. When that husband died a few years later, she was left with a shipyard full of workers and a house full of children, and was under contract to the Admiralty to produce two ships-of-the-line, one of which was already on the slipway.
